I feel rather sorry for her, which is one of the main reasons I believe she has to be destroyed. Beyond the fact that she poses a threat to anything with a pulse and must be stopped, destroying her is probably the only way to grant her the peace that she never had in life (or death, as it turns out.)

How do I feel about Alma? ...horny.

To be honest I feel more sad for her than scared. She never really made me feel scared because I'm used to the clichéd gameplay function of you not dying until the end. Her scares were predictable and I never had a sense of urgency with her. When she jumps me, for instance, all I need to do is click the RMB non-stop and that will "make it go away." When she kills my sqaud-mates I'm thinking either, "another quicktime event or she'll leave me alone." The only truely shocking part I have ever had with Alma was in the office cubicle in the first game, the ladder scene, when the door smashes shut in front of you in a long hallway and you teleport to a hallway with blood on the ceiling, and the ending of FEAR 2. So, yeah. I have spoken.

Should've added a 3rd, 4th, and 5th option:

-Scared and sympathetic
-Hate
-Horniness

I don't understand what is so hard about the thread. Either you are more scared or more sad for her. Why can't you guys just take the thread for what it is. I guess it was my mistake to assume you guys would do so...oh well its too bad

LET THE THREAD DIE because apparently it is too flawed for you guys to accept

Don't take it personally, Alpha. I think the issue people had is that the poll seemed to try and reduce our views to a single, this-or-that option, when the answer to the basic question of how we feel about Alma is a lot more complex.

I guess I'll go with "scary", though, since F.E.A.R. is ultimately a horror game.

Agreed, I don't think it's a personal thing...

Think of it this way... Your post obviously elicited passionate response from people, and if you look at the posts, many end-up doing exactly what you were trying to accomplish in the first place... describing how they feel about Alma.

The general consensus appears to me that, like d2r just said, peoples' feelings are alot more complex for Alma than they are able to sum-up in a black-and-white way.

All you were trying to do was to get them to say this, and you made that pretty clear in your first post, I think.

It's just the "sad" or "scared" that fried everyones' brains, I guess...

I don't take it personally, its just a forum, i just get irritated when it is repeated over and over that it is flawed. I hope you can understand my frustration and please know that no bad blood is harbored by me

Don't worry alpha. I can easily pick one, and I'm sure we can all. I don't think I've had any real discussion about Alma except for maybe my 1st post in here (on this page at least.)

I have a bit of an issue when someone tries to force me into 'You have to believe either this or this!'

So, we're not allowed to post here if we don't share your beliefs?

He wasn't trying to start an argument. I think it's simply a matter of miscommunication, in the end. It's the thought which counted, though, and poll aside, this has been illuminating as to how we view Alma as a character.

A friendly reminder... This was a voluntary poll.

I think you're reading a bit more into this than really exists.

Here's the bottom line as I see it...

Alpha was trying to create a friendly discussion around how people felt about Alma. When people started getting all flustered over not having a set of poll options that sufficiently encompassed the myriad of possible emotions one could have, he (I assume he) decided he didn't want all the bullshit attached, and said forget it, let the thread die.

And I can't say I blame him.

He freaked out when people didn't agree with him and starting insisting that the thread be closed. It's a fact of the forums that people can post wherever they want, whether they agree with the OP or not. And now we get a 'Don't vote or respond! Let the thread die because people don't agree with me!'

Well, for starters,I don't want any problems between you and I, I'm just trying to be objective about this whole thing. That said, upon reviewing the last several posts by Alpha, I'm really not getting the impression he was freaking out because people were disagreeing with him. He makes clear his intent of simply having a thought-provoking discussion and his reasoning for making just a few choices for the poll. He starts to "freak-out" when people are repeatedly criticizing his poll options, instead of just taking them for what they were, and, like, um, talking about Alma..

Though I agree the poll choices could have been a bit more contrasting/specific, I was able to figure-out what I think he meant to say just fine.

Like I said, and I think he did too, his intent was to get people to describe how they felt about Alma, with peoples supporting discussion being the primary goal, and the actual poll choice itself being secondary, just a means to that discussion..

Just my take on the whole thing...

Well, if I had to go with either of Alpha's poll options, as in were it a life and death situation, I would choose "scary". As far as actually being scared goes, Alma doesn't really do it for me, although I do find her to be delightfully creepy... I just think sympathy would be second.

You're not the one freaking out, I have no reason to have a problem with you
Plus, you're the Alma Pictures Guy. I'm already actively stalking you.

Make that LITTLE Alma Pictures.

And as I've said before, I'm really balanced on this. I don't find Alma to be scary, but she is quite creepy and as d2r said before, her horrible past (which is where our sympathy comes in) is responsible for shaping her into the psychotic killer ghost that we see in the games (where the "F.E.A.R." comes in.)
